Puerto Angel is one of the most desirable beach areas in the Costa Maya with its stunning, powdery white sandy beaches and aquamarine waters. Only several hundred yards offshore, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef protects the coastline from possible turbulent seas.  The coral reef, AKA the Mayan Barrier Reef, is the second largest barrier reef in the world – second only to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia – and extends 600 miles from the Yucatan Peninsula to Honduras.  A diver’s, snorkeler’s and fisherman’s paradise, the Reef is home to over 300 species of fish.
